'Irma' - The Knitter

Issue 54 of The Knitter has just hit the shops in the UK. It's a great issue but ignore the main magazine for a minute and skip straight to the supplement.
And you'll find my latest shawl design. 'Irma' is a half-circle shawl knitted in Jillybean Gracious Me Wot Lace which is a gorgeous, very fine lace yarn.
'Irma' which is named after my paternal grandmother (and is pronounced 'erma'). I'm sure she could knit but her craft of choice was mainly embroidery and she did some amazing embroidered pictures. The most precious thing (to me) that she made was a cross stitch advent calendar which my sister and I used to have and now my girls have it and we get it out every December and I buy presents for them to open daily (they open it every other day, otherwise it'd be too expensive).
'Irma' has bands of lace that gets gradually deeper as the shawl gets bigger. The edging are worked sideways and knitted into live stitches so you won't have to cast off all those stitches at the end.
This shawl is big, soo pretty and very delicate. It's easier to knit than it looks and you'll be admired whereever you need it.
Here's a close up of the first lace band:
I tried to get some pictures of the shawl on my dressform before sending it off but it was a bit dark.
The shawl supplement also has an interview with me which was very exciting.
A big thank you to Pixie who knitted the sample for me. She did a fab job as she alwasy does.

I bought the magazine on Tuesday and immediately put this shawl in my queue on Ravelry, it's stunning. I'll be buying some yarn next week when I get paid. Never worked with lace yarn this fine before but I think the effort will be more than worth it!
